KO Japanese Restaurant

Past well-manicured Japanese bonsai and stone gardens, subtly-lit hallways transport you to the three main parts of Ko Japanese Restaurant: its sushi lounge and bar, an adjacent cosy dining hall, and an action-filled two-section Teppanyaki area. The cocktail lounge is easily the most inviting corner of the restaurant, fitted with plush, bright and silky sofas from where you can enjoy your pre-dinner gatherings with a great ‘Tokyopolitan’ cocktail at hand. Glowing orbs hanging from the ceiling also help set the mood for dinner.
Proceed towards the dining hall to witness the ‘itamae’ behind his sushi bar, cutting and rolling the intricate pieces of raw fish and rice. Sashimi selections include a ‘chef’s choice’ with eight pieces each comprising two pieces of tuna, salmon, hamachi (a type of Japanese amberjack) and scallops, at IDR 205,000. Sushi rolls to order off the menu include the signature unagi special roll, at IDR 185,000, (shrimp tempura, tobiko, avocado, cream cheese and grilled eel on top). With a dab of ponzu, it offers a burst of flavour with every mouthful.
The culinary brigade at Ko Japanese Restaurant is helmed by Executive Sous Chef Setyo Widjonanto, who also crafted out one of Ko’s special highlights, namely the ‘Tokyo Nights’. At IDR 480,000 per person, this feast offers diners a choice of eight out of a total of 15 special sushi dishes with pairings available at an extra cost for free-flow of hot and cold sake selections or sake cocktails. Tokyo Nights is held every Friday, with two sittings that start at 18:30 and 20:30. The experience starts off with a choice of soba noodle salad or a wakame and cucumber tagliatelle, followed by savoury choices of spicy tuna tartar, sea scallop katsu, and chicken wings karage.
For an exciting dining experience with a touch of theatrics by chefs who give off chopsocky action, don a black apron and head to the Teppanyaki section: this is where chefs display not only their culinary skills but also provide artful entertainment that precedes the preparation of the food. Prices start from IDR 450,000 per person. “Kampai!”
