Hu’u Bar is among the most celebrated venues on Jalan Petitenget in Seminyak, an area frequently dubbed Bali’s ‘eat street’. The venue is part of the Hu’u brand that also features a restaurant and luxury accommodation facilities. Hu’u first opened in 2001 and has since enjoyed success with crowds of partygoers and diners from around the world.
Hu’u Bar features four main open spaces which also serve as stand-alone mini venues or as a whole, namely a main building that houses the bar and lounge, a private dining room complete with a wine cellar, the pool decks with an al fresco garden space and the main restaurant area that serves the fine creations of Chef Philip Mimbimi.
The moniker Hu’u is taken from the name of an atoll, a surfing haven off the coast of Sumbawa, in the Lesser Sunda Islands which the venue’s founder fell in love with. Hu’u Bar covers an extensive 4,300sqm and was conceived as a multi-concept international leisure spot.
The whole venue, best known for its bar and grill, was designed to serve as a retreat, merging its recently launched luxury accommodation options with its established epicurean highlights and lively night beats.
Hu’u Bar’s expansive dining options range from the main restaurant area that seats up to 75, an al fresco dining area that seats up to 35, a garden lounge that seats up to 20 and the indoor bar and lounge space that hosts a party of up to 150 patrons.
Hu’u sources high-quality meats from farms around the world and fresh produce from gardens and farmers throughout the Bali highlands.
The restaurant was initially known as Nutmegs, before being reintroduced as The Restaurant at Hu’u in 2011. The semi-fine dining restaurant offers an inventive menu featuring a mix of Indonesian, European and North American specialties.
Signature Hu’u dishes includes nasi Hu’uduk, a twist on the Indonesian favourite called nasi uduk. From the grill is Nebraskan prime rib eye and marinated New Zealand lamb brochettes. From the pan-Asian grill is the Wagyu Tokusen tenderloin.
Good to Know about Hu’u Bar & Grill
Hu’u Bar has an extensive choice of spaces. Cosy corners and seating around a pool, and romantic music spice up the ambiance during dinners. Seating reservations are recommended.
American Philip Mimbimi took the helm in 2008 as Executive Chef of Hu’u’s kitchen, coming from the Sheraton Grand Laguna Beach Resort in Phuket, Thailand; The Ritz-Carlton luxury resorts in Jamaica, Las Vegas, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta; and The Four Seasons Hotel in Singapore. Fresh ingredients are the root of his simplified approach to food preparation.
Hu’u provides complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity throughout its venue. As the venue does not feature ample parking space, getting to Hu’u by public transport is recommended.
