Casablanca Sanur is where you can enjoy one of the hippest and liveliest nightlife scenes in this otherwise quiet beach resort area on Bali’s south-eastern coast. The restaurant and bar presents live evening entertainment throughout the week, with a regular line-up of live bands performing anything from alternative and classic rock to reggae, blues and soul. Located on Sanur’s main Jalan Danau Tamblingan, it carries its tagline ‘Dine, Drink and Dance’ proudly and is considered ‘the most colourful place in Sanur’.
Casablanca Sanur is open for breakfasts, lunch and dinners, serving as a good rendezvous point to gather and graze, and socialize throughout the day, while shifting into nightlife mode in the evenings. Great local bands, with names like Plug n’ Play, Holy Grail, Reggae Kid, The Ripper, ABOE, Unb’Rocken, and Stick and Groove take to the stage from Monday to Sunday, 19:00 or 21:00 onwards, while special nights feature guest bands, and some others presenting hot salsa and Latin that lets welcomes you to go footloose with its spacious interiors for dancing and mingling.
The venue has gained a great following as a watering hole since its opening in 2012, and is seemingly the most packed place along Sanur’s main road. At its bar, you have highly skilled and friendly bartenders at your service who will come up with a great beer selection, as well as a round of daily specials which include Bintang buckets comprising five beers for only IDR 125,000; Heineken at IDR 150,000, or Kilkenny at IDR 195,000. Girls have their fun Thursdays and Saturdays with free cocktail selections.
Classic cocktails and mixes (IDR 99,000) also come in a good variety, anything from a signature Chi Chi Casablanca (an uplifting blend of vodka, Malibu rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream and grenadine syrup), to fruity ‘daqis’ and ‘roskas’ (daiquiris and capiroskas) and margaritas. There’s also a shortlist of whiskeys and champagnes and martinis to suit every occasion. If you want to fuel up before getting down, try their ‘energy drinks’, the Jagerbomb (Jagermeister and Red Bull), or Peny Bomb (Pernod and Red Bull) at IDR 85,000 each.
The good list of drinks will keep you quenched, but whenever you feel peckish, there’s a good selection of finger food and light bites to choose from. Besides western favourites such as burgers, schnitzels and good old fish n’ chips, there’s delights from the local kitchen such as a super succulent babi kecap (IDR 55,000) pork loin braised in ginger sweet sauce, and the world-famous beef rendang beef stew (69,000) slow-cooked in spicy coconut cream sauce.
To sum up, the good crowd, weekly stage roster with some of the best bands on the island, a great bar and cool atmosphere, all make Casablanca one of the go-to spots for an evening out in Sanur.
